The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources announced the results of a study to understand the extent of PFAS contamination in shallow groundwater throughout Wisconsin. Read the news release to learn the results of samples from private wells throughout the state.

DNR To Host PFAS External Advisory Group Meeting On Friday, Feb. 17, 2023
The PFAS External Advisory Group meets from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023. Agenda items include member input on work prioritization and planning for 2023. The public is invited to attend, but there may not be opportunities to engage in the discussion. You can submit questions in advance. Microbes deployed to eat toxic 'forever chemicals' at Madison airport show promising results, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Since deploying microbes to breakdown PFAS in the soil at the Dane County Regional Airport, there has been a 97% reduction in the amount of the toxic compounds month over month in a well installed to measure the compounds in nearby groundwater.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host the PFAS Technical Group meeting via Zoom from 9:00 am - 10:30 am on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022. Guests from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will share state and federal updates related to PFAS monitoring with attendees. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host the next PFAS External Advisory Group meeting from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022. Agenda items include information on and updates to ongoing PFAS initiatives such as fish consumption advisories, voluntary municipal drinking water system sampling, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding opportunities for communities and the Green Tier program. Madison Water Utility will hold a meeting and listening session about the status of municipal Well 15. They will also give information on an upcoming PFAS treatment project. You can give input on this project at this meeting and future ones. Water Utility will provide refreshments and other accommodations. The meeting will be June 30 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at East Madison Community Center, 8 Straubel Court, Madison.

April 28, 2022
The Air National Guard is finishing part one of their remedial investigation of PFAS at Truax Field this week. Data from their investigation will be used to find out how much PFAS is present and the best ways to clean it up. Read details.

April 27, 2022 
A resolution was proposed to start the design of a treatment system for Well 15 on Madison’s east side to remove PFAS contamination. It will be reviewed by the City Finance Committee and the Water Utility Board, and is anticipated to return to the Common Council for a final vote on May 10, 2022. Read details.

The DNR PFAS External Advisory Group is meeting virtually on Friday, April 28, 2022 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. The public is invited to attend. People will be able to talk with DNR staff about implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

March 8, 2022
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Department of Health Services (DHS) announced a new PFAS-based consumption advisory for Black Earth Creek at the junction with Blue Mound Creek in Dane County following the results of fish sampling conducted in 2020.

Elevated levels of PFOS, a type of PFAS, were found in brown trout samples from Black Earth Creek near Cross Plains. As a result, the DNR and DHS recommend consuming one meal per week for brown trout harvested from Black Earth Creek.

As part of their efforts to ensure Wisconsinites have access to safe drinking water, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has launched a new, voluntary program for communities that are interested in learning whether their municipal water supply is impacted by PFAS. Sampling is voluntary and available to all municipal drinking water systems in Wisconsin. Read details, including how communities can contact them for sampling.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources PFAS Technical Group is meeting virtually on Friday, February 18 from 9:00 am – 10:30 am. It will include a guest from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to talk about innovative destructive technologies for PFAS-contaminated media and waste.

The public is invited to participate and may ask questions or provide comments at this meeting. Questions can be submitted in advance to DNRPFASInquiries@wisconsin.gov. More information on the meeting, including the Zoom link and an agenda are available on the DNR’S PFAS Technical Group webpage .

They are also hosting a meeting of the PFAS External Advisory Group on Friday, February 18 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Agenda items include updates on PFAS activities and perspectives from the DNR and External Advisory Group members.

The Wisconsin Air National Guard's 115th Fighter Wing hosted an open house on January 11 to address the current status of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances originating on and around Truax Field. You can watch the recording and see the presentation slides.

January 10, 2022
PFAS Remedial Investigation Open House at MATC’s Mitby Theater on Tuesday, January 11. This Open House will be hosted by the National Guard Bureau. The event begins at 6:00pm with a poster session, followed by presentations by the National Guard Bureau. A 45 minute Q&A session will start around 7:30pm.

The Wisconsin PFAS Action Council (WisPAC) will meet virtually via Zoom from 1-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021. Agenda items for this meeting include a review of the PFAS Action Plan implementation progress and plans for the first annual report. In addition, there will be some discussion about the alignment of the Wisconsin PFAS Action Plan and the recently released federal EPA PFAS Strategic Roadmap.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a PFAS Strategic Roadmap. The roadmap sets timelines by which EPA plans to take specific actions and commits to bolder new policies to safeguard public health, protect the environment, and hold polluters accountable.
