Key Takeaways for the Week of 1/30
- ER visits for all respiratory illnesses continue rise and are at a high level. Nearly 1 out of 5 people of all age groups visiting the ER are being diagnosed with a respiratory illness. Over 50% of kids 4 and under who were seen in the ER last week were diagnosed with a respiratory illness.
- The amount of people in the ER with flu remains at a high level and continues to increase across all age groups. The percent of positive flu tests and flu-related hospitalizations also continue to increase.
- RSV is continuing to mostly affect kids 4 and under, the amount of RSV activity in the ER remains at a moderate level. Currently, RSV-related hospitalizations seem to be slowly decreasing.
- With respiratory illness levels so high, it is more important than ever to take precautions to avoid illness such as: staying up to date with vaccines, washing your hands and practicing good hygiene, wearing masks, and staying home if you are sick.
