If you’re new to the data snapshot, we publish a weekly summary of the status for each of our metrics (you can find past issues on our data and dashboard page). The data below are from September 27—October 10.

Cases were stable during this 14-day period with an average of 138 cases per day.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID in Dane County hospitals was stable, with an average of 86 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Dane County hospitals each day. We are not able to discern whether these hospitalizations are among Dane County residents or among patients transferred to the Dane County hospitals from the surrounding areas. Percent positivity was 3.7% and an average of 3,747 tests were conducted per day. Because percent positivity has been holding steady and has remained under 5%, this is a good indication that we’re testing at the level we need to in order to find cases.

Dane County currently has the second lowest case rate and lowest percent positivity out of all 72 counties in the state.

Dane County has consistently had lower case rates among all age groups than Wisconsin overall (with the exception of a recent spike among college-aged students). Case rates among Dane County residents are lower than case rates in Wisconsin for each age group:

  • Age 0-11: WI has 1.3x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 12-15: WI has 1.9x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 16-17: WI has 2.1x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 18-24: WI has 1.6x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 25-44: WI has 1.5x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 45-64: WI has 1.9x higher case rate than Dane County
  • Age 65+: WI has 1.7x higher case rate than Dane County

The age-adjusted case rate during this 14-day period was 5.9 times higher for not fully vaccinated people.

The difference in case rates was higher among not fully vaccinated people for each age group:

  • Age 12-15: Not fully vaccinated have 10.7x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 16-17: Not fully vaccinated have 9.4x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 18-24: Not fully vaccinated have 1.5x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 25-34: Not fully vaccinated have 3.5x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 35-44: Not fully vaccinated have 3.1x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 45-54: Not fully vaccinated have 2.9x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
  • Age 55-64: Not fully vaccinated have 2.2x higher case rate than fully vaccinated
