If you’re new to the data snapshot, we publish a weekly summary of the status for each of our metrics (you can find past issues on our data and dashboard page). The data below are from July 5-July 18.

Cases have increased during this 14-day period, with an average of 14 cases per day.

We had a percent positivity of 1.2% and conducted an average of 1,170 tests per day. The number of people hospitalized in Dane County hospitals with COVID is stable, with a 14-day average of 23 people hospitalized. We are not able to discern whether these hospitalizations are among Dane County residents or among patients transferred to one the Dane County hospitals from surrounding areas.

Delta continues to likely be the dominant strain of virus in Dane County.

Of 16 cases sequenced in the most recent two-week period, 13 (81%) were Delta. The Delta variant is concerning because it has increased transmissibility, and antibodies produced in response to COVID-19 infection or partial vaccine may be less effective in fighting the virus. The COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. have shown to still provide protection against the Delta variant, particularly in preventing severe disease and death. We have very good vaccine coverage in Dane County, including a high percentage of people who have completed the series (see next section).

Almost 70% of the entire Dane County population has received at least one dose of vaccine.

69.8% of all Dane County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine and 67.1% have completed the vaccine series. 80.6% of the eligible population (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of vaccine and 77.5% have completed the vaccine series.
