Madison Hosts Nature Everywhere Day and Conference

posted

When children spend time outdoors, they are healthier, happier and more successful in school. The Nature Everywhere Conference, hosted by the Children & Nature Network at Monona Terrace Community & Convention Center May 28-31, brings together cross-sector leaders from around the world to advance programs, practices and policies for advancing equitable access to nature everywhere children live, learn and play. Madison is a leader in connecting children and families to nature. By hosting this conference and the Nature Everywhere Day, we further advance efforts to increase equitable access to nature everywhere children live, learn and play.

In addition to Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway welcoming more than 600 attendees on Wednesday, May 29, and a keynote presentation by James Edward Mills, author and founder of The Joy Trip Project, the three-day conference, offers a blend of inspiration and real-world practical solutions to advance access to nature. Anyone interested in the health and well-being of children is welcome and will find content to bring to children’s lives.

The culmination is Nature Everywhere Day, a single-day event with numerous free activities held in locations throughout the Madison area on Saturday, June 1, 2024, 9am to 3pm. Local nature-leaders, lovers and enthusiasts are invited to stop by the event’s hub at Olin Terrace – in front of Monona Terrace at the intersection of Wilson St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. to take the Vitamin N Challenge and learn more about nature-based activities happening across the Madison area.

Events for all ages and abilities are planned throughout the day and across the city. Highlights include: MSCR led nature hike at Olson Oak Woods State Natural Area, Birding Walk in Olin Park, Canoeing on Lake Monona and Orienteering Exploration in Hoyt Park, plus community yoga, arts, crafts and much more. See Nature Everywhere Day for the full list of events and locations.
