This week is LGBTQ+ Health Week! Public Health Madison & Dane County aims to create healthy communities for everyone—including the LGBTQ+ community. We know that accessing affirming and supportive services as a queer, trans, or nonbinary person can be difficult. We work to make all of our services accessible to everyone. Here’s a snapshot of some of our services and how we work to make them inclusive.

Sexual and Reproductive Health: Our sexual and reproductive health clinic provides STI testing and treatment, as well as STI prevention and birth control. Services are for everyone, regardless of age, sexual orientation, or gender identity. We work with you to get you the tools you need to stay happy and healthy. Learn more on our website.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC): Don’t be fooled by the name! (The name is set by the federal government.) We can provide lactation support and nutrition support to all qualifying birthing parents and their children under 5. Learn more on our website.

Prenatal Home Visiting Programs: We support pregnant and birthing people through our prenatal home visiting programs. (Home visiting doesn’t have to happen at your home—we can meet you wherever it works best!) Our free personal nurses work with pregnant people to provide support and health education throughout their pregnancy and postpartum period. Learn more on our website.

Wisconsin Well Woman Program: Again, ignore the name here—we help cisgender women, trans men, and nonbinary people ages 45-64 get free breast/chest and cervical cancer screenings. Younger people (35-64) experiencing a breast/chest or cervical issue may also be eligible. Learn more on our website.

Other services, like immunizations, TB treatment, environmental health, and more:  Your gender or sexual orientation might not be as relevant with our other services, but rest assured that we’re here to help everyone get their vaccines, get treatment for diseases like TB, or get a radon test—and much more! Learn about the health services and environmental services we provide on our website.
