Public Health Madison & Dane County Announcing Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program

posted

Public Health Madison & Dane County has been awarded funding to implement a Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program as part of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). The program connects people who are pregnant or breastfeeding and participating in WIC to peer support that is intended to help them reach their breastfeeding goals.

“Support and encouragement from a parent who has had similar experiences can help build confidence to overcome feeding challenges that may arise,” says Katrina Harwood, Public Health Supervisor.

WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors listen and offer encouragement, share information, answer questions, and help connect moms to breastfeeding experts, if needed, by phone.

If someone is interested in signing up for WIC or are already enrolled and would like to work with the Peer Counselors, they can call (608) 267-1111.
