Clean Sweep Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site Announces 2012 New Winter Season Hours
Pilot Program Expands Safe Disposal Opportunities
The Clean Sweep Program for recycling household hazardous waste will be open with new winter hours. This is the first such seasonal expansion of the program. In recognition of this, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi said that "Clean Sweep is a highly successful program that has kept unnecessary and hazardous waste out of the county landfill. We're excited to announce its expansion into the winter months and encourage people can take advantage of it." Madison mayor Paul Soglin added, "Clearly the generation of hazardous waste is not restricted to one season. I am pleased that the Clean Sweep Program is expanding, as it will not only remove the hazardous materials from our homes but help maintain the integrity of our environment." Dane County is trying out a limited winter season during these hours: 2012 Winter Hours: • January 1st through April 27th • Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Due to the fact that our existing facility is located on an outdoor site, we are limited with the services we can provide during these new winter season hours. Important program changes during the winter season: • The Product Exchange will NOT be open. • Latex paint will NOT be accepted. (Winter Option - allow the paint to dry completely and then throw in trash) • We will NOT be collecting water based cleaners and other non-hazardous materials that can be safely flushed down your drain or thrown in your trash. Please check our website for any changes to the program at www.danecountycleansweep.com The Clean Sweep program will return to normal Summer Hours and operating procedures in May 2012: 2012 Summer Hours Tuesday through Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. May 1st through October 31st The Clean Sweep Program provides an opportunity for residents of Dane County to safely dispose of household hazardous materials, free of charge. The Small Business Collection Program is now open by appointment year round. The small Business Collection Program accepts materials from small businesses and local units of government. These materials are accepted Tuesday through Friday by appointment. Prior arrangements need to be made before bringing materials to the site, and there is a per pound charge for materials brought to the program. Business owners are reminded that they need to allow enough time to request registration materials and to submit an inventory of the materials for recycling. Clean Sweep will also accept agriculturally-generated wastes. A Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection grant underwrites the disposal costs so there is no cost to farmers, and agricultural businesses only pay half the normal business cost. All farmers and agricultural-related businesses from Dane County are invited to participate. Agricultural Clean Sweep Program participation is by appointment only, Tuesday through Friday.
