Public Health Encourages Vaccinations to Prevent Influenza
NEWS RELEASE Public Health Madison & Dane County Madison WI - Thursday, January 29, 2009 - Public Health Madison and Dane County has doses of flu vaccine currently available for both children and adults at our regularly scheduled, walk-in clinics. At this time, we are making the vaccine available to ALL individuals who wish to avoid influenza illness this winter. The flu shots are free, and will be provided until we run out of vaccine. While reports of flu illness in Wisconsin have not been above expected levels yet, January and February are the months we usually expect to see a rise in the numbers of people becoming sick with the flu. It is important to remember that flu is a serious illness for infants and small children, adults over age 50, and people with chronic illness. Children under age 2 and adults 65 years and older run a significantly increased risk to be hospitalized due to complications of flu. But even for otherwise healthy individuals catching the flu will provide at least a week of hacking coughs, high fever, body aches, headache, chills and severe fatigue. You can avoid this extremely unpleasant experience if you come to Public Health's clinics and protect yourself with a flu shot.
