The New "CovidConnect"

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is launching a new and improved CovidConnect system. The goal is to help you save time when you’re getting a COVID test through our clinic. So, what is CovidConnect and how does this update affect me? Keep reading to find out.

If you’ve gotten a PCR test with us in the last 2+ years, you’ve already used CovidConnect

Let’s say you signed up for a testing appointment at our South Madison testing or the Alliant Energy Center. Then, you received an email with a link to a questionnaire that you were asked to fill out before you come in your appointment. CovidConnect is that screening questionnaire. It’s provided by DHS and is designed to help streamline the registration process and your appointment.

So what’s new about it?

CovidConnect will no longer require you to fill out a new questionnaire every time you set up an appointment. Instead, it’ll be more like an online portal system. You fill out registration information once and create a patient account that stores all of your COVID testing records in one place. This will make it much easier for recurrent testing and will allow you to access your records and keep them all in one place.

How does it work?

You’ll register one time with some of your personal information; things like your name, phone number, and address. Then, you’ll sign a consent form, essentially agreeing to allow your test results to be uploaded to the portal. Once you set up your account, don’t forget your user ID and password. You’ll use that to login and access your test results. Because you aren’t filling out the questionnaire before every appointment, you’ll have to answer questions about your symptoms and exposure when you arrive at your appointment.

Parents can access CovidConnect for their children

If you’re a parent and would like access to your child’s testing records, you can link to your child’s account from within your personal account. From the patient login screen, click “create an account” and follow the instructions to create and link accounts. By doing so, you will attest that you have the appropriate authorization and consent required.

This isn’t the only change you’ll notice at the testing clinic this fall and winter. DHS has also shifted its overall testing strategy to focus more on antigen tests, which provide rapid results.
