If you’re new to the data snapshot, we publish a weekly summary of the status for each of our metrics (you can find past issues on our data and dashboard page). The data below are from November 15—November 28.

Cases decreased* during this 14-day period with an average of 157.5 cases per day.

Cases decreased from 1,177 cases the first week to 1,028 cases the second week. On average, 84 out of the 157.5 cases each day were among people who are not vaccinated. The number of people hospitalized with COVID in Dane County hospitals increased, with an average of 109 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Dane County hospitals each day. We are not able to discern whether these hospitalizations are among Dane County residents or among patients transferred to the Dane County hospitals from the surrounding areas. Percent positivity was 5.0% and an average of 3,163 tests were conducted per day. Percent positivity has been increasing in recent weeks and is at 5%, an indication that infections in our community are becoming more widespread.

*Note that lower levels of testing over the Thanksgiving holiday are likely impacting this trend

37% of fully vaccinated people in Dane County have gotten a booster or third dose.

37% of Dane County residents who have completed the initial vaccine series have received a booster or third dose, and 72% of residents ages 65+ who have completed the initial vaccine series have received a booster or third dose. 39.9% of Dane County residents 18+ who have completed the initial vaccine series have received a booster or third dose.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has still not provided us with vaccination data for 5-11 year olds, so the vaccination data on the first two pages of the snapshot is for ages 12+ only. We are working with the Department of Health Services to try to obtain these data. At a state level, DHS has reported that 87,000 5-11 year olds have received at least one dose.

The age-adjusted case rate during this 14-day period among not fully vaccinated people was 25.4 times higher than the rate among people with a booster or additional dose. 

We now have new booster and additional dose data elements to share. The age-adjusted rate of cases during this 14-day period was 1,089.1 per 100,000 not fully vaccinated residents, which is 3.7 times higher than the rate of 290.5 per 100,000 people fully vaccinated with only the initial series, and 25.4 times higher than the rate of 42.9 per 100,000 people fully vaccinated with a booster or additional dose. People vaccinated with only the initial series were 6.8 times more likely to test positive than people who received a booster or additional dose.

Omicron has not yet been detected in Dane County.

Our blog post, released December 1, summarized the most recent information on Omicron we know right now. UW-Madison and the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene are working to sequence test samples here in Dane County so we can detect Omicron if it arrives. We recommend everyone get vaccinated, get a booster shot, and wear a mask in indoor public spaces to prevent the spread of COVID.
