Data Will Guide Phase 2 Public Health Order

Public Health Madison & Dane County published the Forward Dane plan a few weeks ago to be transparent with the community about Dane County’s approach to a phased reopening in the wake of the statewide Safer at Home order being rescinded.

The plan defines the metrics that guide Public Health Madison & Dane County decisions. It is based on a deep assessment of the landscape of existing plans—local, regional, state, national, governmental, nongovernmental. The metrics for moving through phases are locally tailored, and built using both national guidance as well as our historic data.

The current COVID-19 weekly data snapshot gives a picture of the Forward Dane metrics through May 29. When we update the metrics again on Monday, June 8, the data that will be included will be through June 5.

We will not issue a new ‘Phase 2’ public health order without supporting metrics from two full weeks of data from Phase 1. This two-week period will end on June 9. We expect to have the data compiled and analyzed on June 12 to inform any decisions about future orders.

As a reminder, the parameters that need to be in place to move from Phase 1 to Phase 2 are:

• Assess at 14 days after implementation of Phase 1.
• If more than half of metrics are green and epidemiology criteria are not red, move to Phase 2.
• If criteria are not met after 14 days, assess regularly until criteria are met.
