Public Health Madison & Dane County licenses and inspects all body art facilities to assure that health and safety standards are met to prevent infection and disease. Body art facilities include any that provide tattoo, piercing, or permanent makeup services.
All tattooing and body piercing activities must occur in a licensed establishment.
All tattooists and body piercers must hold a practitioner’s license.

A Practitioner License is through the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services.
